Sugar Cookies On Platter

Recipe For Small Sugar Cookies From Texas

This recipe yields about 30 small sugar cookies.  Preheat your oven to 375.

Mix in the following dry ingredients in a bowl and set aside.

2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 teas. baking soda
3/4 teas. salt

Cream the following ingredients together and then stir in the dry ingredients from above.

1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 teas. vanilla
1 egg

If needed, you can blend in 1 to 2 tablespoons of milk in order to get your dough to stick together as shown below if it is too dry.  If your dough is too wet, then slowly add in flour until your dough can easily be played with like play dough.

Roll mixture into balls with hands and add to greased pan and cook 9-10 min. depending on size of cookie  at 375 degrees.

If using colored sugar for decor, press down on top of balls and sprinkle on cookies before putting in oven or roll in sugar as shown above.  These are very good with buttercream icing, but most of the time we use the colored sugar as shown above and eat without icing.  The baked size of the cookie is very close to its size when placed in the oven.  This recipe yields approximately 30 sugar cookies.

No rolling pin or cookie cutters needed to make these cookies as described above.  These are SO easy and taste great!  If you have’t tried baking sugar cookies before, this is definitely a great recipe to start with.  Enjoy!

  1. These cookies are so easy to make, that my 10 year old is making these now with no help. Now when we'd like a weekend snack, he pulls out the recipe and is so proud of himself. He's even added a new twist to the recipe. He drops in a few drops of food coloring and makes "swirl – colored" cookies!
