July 4th is almost here and there are many things to do in order to be ready for the holiday. I like to make a run to the grocery for picnic items, get all my lawn chairs ready, and also drop by the fireworks stand for those family firework favorites. For those who live in especially dry areas right now, fireworks may be out of the question this year, but there are still fun things you can do with your family to celebrate the 4th.
Here’s a great pretzel recipe I found from MomCentral.com. It looks like fun, my family and I plan on trying it ourselves.
Watching fireworks with friends and family is more fun when you can make your own edible explosions. Pretzel Sparklers make a great addition to any summer party. Make these no mess, 2-minute creations on your own, or invite the kids to help out.
Pretzel Sparklers from Martha Stewart Kids
Makes two dozen
- Place 4 ounces of chopped semisweet chocolate in a heatproof bowl set over a pan of simmering water. Stir occasionally until melted; remove from heat.
- Take a pastry brush and coat the upper third of each pretzel rod in chocolate. Or, set out a bowl of melted chocolate for guests to dip their own a la fondue style.
- Cover with sprinkles; stand pretzels upright in a glass. Place in the refrigerator until firm, about 5 minutes (or just eat warm and gooey). Make the sprinkles red, white, and blue and these little firecrackers are 4th of July ready.
