Snoogi Children’s CD & Starbuck’s Giftcard Giveaway

Here’s the giveaway you’ve been waiting for!  Submit your entries today and win a Snoogi audio book for a special child and a $10 Starbuck’s giftcard for you! See entry rules at the bottom of the post.

Many smart and talented children are not having the success they deserve because they are easily distracted, have little patience or cannot concentrate on one thing at a time and this is why Mona Refay developed the SNOOGi audio stories to help kids focus better in school, have better listening skills and sleep better at night.

Each SNOOGi audio story tells an exciting magical tale of a group of talented animals that live in a zoo filled with fun and adventure. Mona successfully uses the power of storytelling  to introduce very helpful and simple tools like visualizations, progressive muscular relaxation, breathing and positive affirmations that can empower kids to have more self-confidence, listen better in school and have better communication with parents, teachers and peers. The SNOOGi stories teach children valuable life lessons in a fun and entertaining way.  These audio books are great to listen to before bedtime, on long road trips or anytime!

What are the benefits of audio books?

  • Audio books Improve  listening, vocabulary and  comprehension skills.
  • Audio books are valuable media for your children because they don’t pre-digest imagery for them.
  • Audio books give your child the experience to imagine the words they are hearing about, rather than having the characters and scenery presented to them like in a book or TV show.
  • When listening to an audiobook, your child is getting a “brain workout” by actively working to create the characters and actions in their own mind, in a way that resonates with them.

  2. I think it is important to find out the ways that your child learns best, then do your best to present things in this context. If your child learns better visually, the internet can be a very interactive environment with many visuals. If your child is really into sports, learn some sports terms and try to relate schoolwork them as often as you can. Also, get specific with your child. Try to talk to them about a few details of their schoolwork, this can give you a clue as to their attention to detail, and moreover, their overall attention span and ability to focus.

  3. Do you limit the time your child plays video games or the computer and why? I play video/online games with my child, so his game time is monitored so we also have time for other activities such as reading and physical playtime.

  5. 3.Do you feel that video games and T.V. affect your child’s concentration? I don’t know if they affect concentration – not that I can tell – but they do make them crabby and fight more.

  6. 2.Do you limit the time your child plays video games or the computer and why? Yes, because it makes them act crazy. I’d get rid of all the screens in our house if my DH would let me.

  7. 1.What do you think parents can do to improve their child’s concentration and focus? I don’t know. Nothing I know of but maybe these videos?

  8. Do you limit the time your child plays video games or the computer and why? I take care of my nieces over the summer while their parents work and they are not allowed to play video games. I barely allow them on the computer as well when it’s nice outside. I think time on computers and video games should be limited because it weakens a child’s concentration and doesn’t stimulate their creativity and intellect the way playing outside or running about and interacting with others can. My brother and his wife agree. They are young still so there’s no hw that needs to get done on the computer and if there was they would be limited to no more than 2 hrs a day.

  9. I like the Promoting Confidence and Self-Esteem: The Mystery of the Singing Peacock cd 🙂

  10. I do not limit my daughters computer time; I limit the games and apps that I allow her to play with, everything is educational to the max

  11. 2.Do you limit the time your child plays video games or the computer and why? Yes, I do as there are far better things for a child to be doing outside getting exercise, playing games with the neighbood, etc. rather than just sitting playing a video game.

What a wonderful thing you are doing with your website Bobbie, all the time you spend on it so that it is enjoyable for others to come and visit, you are a blessing!
Thanks, and any video would be wonderful, you choose.

    Take care, Phyllis

  12. What do you think parents can do to improve their child’s concentration and focus?
Spend time with them without the tv, cell phones, radio, or other distractions turned on. Read together and sit at the dinner table. There are so many kids who don’t know that you must sit in a chair to eat dinner at the table. When they get to the school cafeteria, they continually get in trouble for being out of their seats. It happens ALL THE TIME! Attend church or other public functions such as movies where kids have to sit quietly. Practice makes perfect in this area. Thanks!

  13. 2.Do you limit the time your child plays video games or the computer and why? I don’t have kids, but as a teacher, I would say yes. Kids get obsessed and lose sleep by staying up and playing the games. Also, they always want constant stimulation and excitement when they get to school. Sorry, books, paper and pencils are just not the same. Deal with it.

  14. 3.Do you feel that video games and T.V. affect your child’s concentration? Definitely. Kids are constantly wanting to jump from one thing to another. They also encourage violence on the playground and with other children.

  15. video games do affect concentration, but there are ways to harness that attention, too, I think: games can teach kids about rewards and long term goals

  16. Yes I monitor the amount of they play video games because i want them to be active not sit in front of a screen all day.

  17. Unless it’s an educational game, I limit their time to an hour a day, more more on weekends.

  18. I think video games and t.v. affect my children’s concentration, so when they have homework, etc. they turn these off.

  20. To improve a child’s concentration & focus: Pediatricians suggest only 2 hours of screen time. In between, provide hands-on experiences for children. Give them chores and set a timer for a reasonable time that the chores must be completed. Help them with their homework if they have trouble staying focused. By doing this, you are training their brain to stay focused on 1 task.

  21. If you engage your children in activities that have to be completed in a timely manner helps them stay focus, and if there is a reward for doing so, keeps them motivated too.

  22. Yes, I do limit the amount of time they spend. Fantasy is wonderful but so is reality, lol

  23. Do you feel that video games and T.V. affect your child’s concentration?

Absolutely for my 11 yr old son. We fight everytime I try to get him to do something while watching TV, not only that, he has selective hearing while watching TV. Video games have to have a set time as well, because I find that if I interrupt A game, they tend to get quite crabby. Give him his game time and let him be for that short time.

  24. I can’t think of a better way to increase a child’s concentration and focus thank by reading to them from an early age.

  25. Parents should find activities that make children think and problem solve to improve concentration

  26. I limit their time with the TV and computer because I want them to enjoy the outdoors and enjoy the company of others also.

  27. I always enjoyed making “concentration cards” for my daughter with her favorite things on them. Just make them all the same size and draw or paste pictures of favorite things on them (always in a matching pair). Turn them upside down and the child matches them… matches get removed when made. This always held her attention for a long time.

  28. My daughter never got into games (yay!) 🙂 but I only limit computer time when she’s not on learning sites. She limits herself actually, and knows when she had enough “learning” and then moves to a book (which is also learning but shhhh, don’t tell!) Katharina angelsandmusic[at]gmail[dot]com

  29. I feel that video games and t.v. affect concentration, yes… and especially when the t.v. shows “spell everything out” and often more than one or two times, instead of letting the child come to the conclusions by using thinking power. Katharina angelsandmusic[at]gmail[dot]com

  30. If I win, I’d like the Promoting Confidence and Self Esteem CD.

  31. I limit my childrens’ computer time and attempt to monitor the sites that they visit by keeping the computer in a visible place.

  32. Question 3:

I do think video games affect a child’s attention. I notice they don’t want to do their homework or chores or anything else for that matter when they are playing games.

  33. My children are babies, but when they are older I will absolutely limit computer/video time. That time is better spent playing outside, doing sports, or reading a book.

  34. Do you limit the time your child plays video games or the computer and why? Yes, because I want my children to do other things like playing outside, reading and doing crafts and playing their instruments

  35. to improve your child’s focus you can practice doing things longer and longer and keeping the attention on the task at hand longer and longer

  36. What do you think parents can do to improve their child’s concentration and focus?

I think playing puzzles or doing things like connect the dots and whatnot is a good way to increase attention span. Also, just trying to uphold conversations.

  37. What do you think parents can do to improve their child’s concentration and focus?

I think that parents need to spend more time with their child and interact with them. Play games with the child or do activities with them.

  38. Television and video games are not part of the menu; the little ones are five and under.

  39. I think parents can improve their child’s concentration and focus by having quiet reading time each day

  40. Do you limit the time your child plays video games or the computer and why?
Yes I do because If I let them they would play video games/computer all day long!

  42. I have three little ones and I do limit their media time because I want to instill old fashioned values and I want them to be able to connect to their siblings one on one.

  43. I think that minimal amounts of supervised video or t.v. time for my young children is acceptable but I do not allow more than that because I feel like it does affect their concentration.

  44. I homeschool my children and we spend quite a bit of one on one family time reading together and having fun, open discussions to encourage concentration.
