We moved to our present home a few years ago. We were only moving 15 minutes down the road, but had really wanted out of our previous neighborhood so we took the plunge. It is so hot here in Texas and moving in June is just asking for it! I wanted to save money on our move, so I began hunting down moving boxes a month or so before it was time to move. The local stores were holding them for me and then contacted me to pick them up when they had a good amount saved for me. It was a lot of work scavenging for boxes, but in the end it was well worth it. My husband and I have been married for 17 years and have 2 boys and LOTS of junk that I can’t bear to part with. I know I am a pack rat, but one day I may need something and won’t have to repurchase it if I have it “stored” away.
We also saved money on our move by renting a small moving trailer and moving the small items ourselves, but when it came to the beds, appliances and piano, we needed help! We hired a moving company and they moved my prepacked boxes that we didn’t move ourselves and all the heavy, large items. Thank goodness we hired movers or else my piano never would have made it upstairs. We were also so tired from moving boxes, that it was nice to have someone else put together our beds so we’d have somewhere to sleep our first night after a long day of moving. All I had to do was remember where I packed our pillows and sheets.
One of my friends is moving and I’ve been helping her track down a few expert movers in Austin, Texas. Movers are great, but you need to make sure you hire the right company, so ask lots of questions and get a few estimates before hiring your movers.
