No one wants their child to sit in front of the television all Summer, but there are a lot of great educational cable TV shows for our children. My youngest son could benefit from educational cable TV shows, but he doesn’t like to watch television. He’d rather be chasing the dog, swimming in the pool or irritating his brother. Sometimes he will watch an educational children’s program with his brother, but never sits through the whole show. He is truly a busy body with tons of activities planned for each day. He started kindergarten last year and a great educational show could have reinforced his kindergarten basic skills. When he was three, he loved Diego, and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, but once he turned four, he decided that he was too old for these shows and started trying harder to be more like his older brother.
My oldest son was a HUGE Barney fan when he was two. We had a big screen television and Barney appeared life size to him as he danced and sang along with Barney and his friends. He learned his colors, letters and numbers from his pal Barney without even knowing that he was learning. Now he is twelve and loves to watch Animal Planet and The History Channel. He just figured out how to get additional channels on his bedroom television and is thrilled that now he can watch the History channel in his room too.
