Do you normally use Shell Gasoline?  Did you know that Shell Nitrogen Enriched Gasoline delivers 20% more active cleaning agents than before, allowing all three grades of Shell gasoline to protect your engine from performance-robbing gunk?

Did you know that the road trip is a classic American pastime long identified with exploration, discovery and bonding with friends and family? My family always uses “the road trip” for vacations.  It costs less than using the airlines and when we get to our destination, there is no need for a rental car.  We pack the van up with snacks, games, pillows, favorite music and more to keep everyone entertained while enduring the most asked question of the trip – “How much longer before we get there?

Most people think that road trips cost more because of the rising gas prices, but when you do the math, it is much cheaper to drive if you have multiple passengers.  If you are in a hurry or traveling by yourself I can see flying, but when vacationing with your family, I am always in favor of the good old fashioned road trip.

According to the Car Care Council, a family of four traveling 1,000 miles round trip could save $1,000 by driving instead of flying

  • The average cost for a family of four to drive a 1,000 mile round trip is $350
  • The average cost for a family of four to fly 1,000 mile round trip is $1,441

Before you head out on your Road trip, make sure you are prepared.

  • According to the Shell Mechanics Survey*, the four best tactics to prepare your vehicle for a road trip are:
    • Inspect tires for air pressure, tread depth, rotation, etc.
    • Check all fluid levels
    • Fill up on high quality gasolines
    • Check / change engine oil and oil filers

*The Shell Mechanics Survey was a 7-minute online survey conducted by StrategyOne.  The survey fielded from March 30 – April 2, 2012 and sampled 450 automotive mechanics across the United States. The margin of error is +/- 4.62% at 95% confidence.

My husband always reminds me to run the van by the dealership to have everything checked out.  Sometimes it is irritating because I am running short on time, but I do NOT want to be stranded on the side of the road in the Summer heat because I didn’t find the time to have the van checked out!
