Rainy Day Activities for Summer

Perhaps one of the most difficult aspects of summer is finding ways to stay entertained indoors.  When the weather is sunny, bright, and cheerful it’s natural for kids to enjoy playing outside and getting to explore, so figuring out things to do when the weather is less-than-perfect can be a struggle.  Fortunately, there are quite a few ways you can keep your little ones busy and entertained even when they’re feeling bored.

Break out the board games
Think board games are only for families in the movies?  Think again!  Board games offer a fantastic way to spend time with your family and work on your trivia and memory skills, as well.  Some tried-and-true board games include Apples to Apples, Cranium, or Ticket to Ride.

Bake something together
Rainy days are a great time to do some baking.  Don’t like baked goods?  Don’t worry.  Consider baking some muffins, breads, or even a pie for your neighbors.  They’ll definitely appreciate the thought and baking not only hones your child’s math skills, but gives him some practical life skills as well.

Look at family photos
In a world of digital photos, consider breaking out some of your old-school photo albums.  It’ll be a great time to share stories and memories with your children while getting to talk about times past.  You’ll be surprised at how much time you can actually spend looking at pictures with your family.

Regardless of what you decide to do, remember to have fun and before you know it, the sun will be shining again.
