Traveling during the year can be a challenge, especially if you have children in school. Trying to plan family vacations around school breaks and holiday weekends can be difficult and overwhelming, but fortunately, summer break offers a fantastic time to travel with your family. Regardless of your budget and the age of your children, there are a number of vacations you can take with your family that everyone is sure to love.
Visit a relative
Do you have relatives in another state or another country that you haven’t visited in a while? Visiting a family member is one fantastic way to save money on a trip. Not only will you have a guide who can show you around the local sites, but you’ll reduce the expenses you spend on a hotel. Plus, since your family member will have a kitchen, you won’t need to spend as much money on eating out as you otherwise would.
Go local
Do you have a local historical site you haven’t seen? Are there several inns or Bed and Breakfasts in town that you haven’t visited yet? Consider taking a local vacation for a weekend with your family. Stay at a local hotel or resort, visit local restaurants and take the time to explore all the nearby attractions you haven’t had time to see. We haven’t been to our local zoo in a long time. If you are in the Houston area, you can find zoo coupons at www.HoustonZooCoupons.net.
Ask for discounts
If you decide to go on a trip to a popular resort or vacation destination, especially someplace like New York City or Disney World, don’t be afraid to ask for discounts. AAA members, military and government employees, and even students often get discounts at different hotels or attractions. It never hurts to ask and you may end up saving 10% or more if you visit a place that does give discounts.
Check travel options
When choosing your travel options, make sure you check all avenues, for example, check the different airlines, such as WestJet, or look to see if the Mega Bus runs in your area. My family has even looked at trips we could take by train. Sometimes the travel method can be just as fun as the destination! Just remember when booking your vacation, to check for different rates throughout the week days versus traveling over the weekend or on holidays.
