Make The Best Of The Summer Heat

Have you ever noticed that the hotter it is outside,  the less your air conditioners want to work?  Some areas have “brown outs” which are instituted by the various electric companies at the hottest part of the day.  Once your air conditioners have been off for awhile, it is just hard for them to catch up.  Thankfully, the summer heat will soon be moving on for some areas, but until it leaves your area, you need to know how to make the best of it.

There are several things you can do to try to beat the heat:

  1.  Try buying some overhead fans, they will keep the air moving.
  2. You can also buy some small stand alone fans that you can put directly on you.  Have you ever tried placing a large bowl of ice in front of the fan?  This sounds strange, but it works.
  3. Not using lights in the heat of the day will also help keep your home cooler.
  4. Keeping the shades down and the sunlight from entering will also help block some heat.
  5. Do not move around too much if you can help it. Waiting until the evening when the sun goes down to clean will make a big difference on how you feel while working.
  6. If you have to go out, make sure the car’s air conditioner is in working order, this will lower your body temperature for when you have to go back in your home.
  7. If you can, take your family to the local swimming pool or beach during the day or perhaps an amusement park that features water attractions.
  8. If you are really hot, you can always make a trip to the local bowling alley or go to an indoor mall and sit in their restaurant area.  Movie theaters and bookstores are usually well air conditioned and many bookstores have seating for customers to sit and read.
  9. Remember to drink lots of fluids, especially water, to stay hydrated and it also helps to wear comfortable, loose clothing.
