3 Ways to Relax and Unwind

Finding ways to relax can be difficult for anyone, but even more of a challenge for busy moms.  Whether you work outside the home, work from home, or even are a stay-at-home mom, it’s important to take a break from your job and your family and just focus on relaxation.  Taking time to relax will not only help you handle stress and tension in your life, but will also help you to be more receptive to the people around you.

First off, take a few minutes each morning to just be alone.  This could mean getting up a little early and fixing your hair by yourself, drinking a cup of coffee in the kitchen before your kids wake up, or even just laying in bed listening to music for a few minutes.  Start your day off, whenever possible, by taking a few deep breaths and just thinking about your day.

Next, make time at least once or twice a month to do something fun and relaxing with your friends.  Head to a movie, go bowling, or even go out to dinner with some of your close friends.  If you aren’t the social type, consider doing something you think is fun and can enjoy alone, such as going to an art gallery, visiting a local museum, or even bringing a good book to a restaurant so you can eat while you read.

Finally, make sure you communicate with your spouse when you need a break.  Men aren’t mind readers, so if you feel like you’re getting overwhelmed or starting to feel stressed, make sure you talk about it.  Let your husband know that you need some quiet time to go take a bath, read a book, or just go on a walk by yourself.  Of course, make sure you do the same for him and reciprocate with his own quiet time whenever possible.
