Recipe For A Few Homemade Biscuits

These last few weeks, I have been making scrambled eggs, bacon and canned biscuits for Sunday morning breakfast.  I can remember my mother making biscuits from scratch so I figure I’ll try my hand at that one morning.  Here’s a simple recipe that I found in my recipe box.  I have never used this recipe, but a friend gave it to me and said how easy it was, so it sounds like a great place to start.

Recipe For A Few Homemade Biscuits

  • 1/2 cup self rising flour
  • 3/8 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 Tablespoon oil
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk

Sift dry ingredients, and add oil and milk and kneed lightly.  In order to make her biscuits just the right size, my mother used to use the opening of a juice cup to cut them out of her dough once it was rolled out on a floured surface.  After reading through several biscuit recipes, I see that some recipes say to slightly butter your pan before adding your biscuits and others say no greasing required for your baking pan.

Depending on your oven, you should bake your biscuits at 425 -450 and set the timer for 10 minutes.    You may need a few additional minutes, just be sure to watch these so they don’t cook too long.

Good luck!
