Simple Ways to Speed Up Your Morning

Riding bikes to school with your kids makes a great morning, but also takes more organization and preparation.

While the relaxation and calmness during the summer was a wonderful thing, now that the kids are back in school my mornings are hectic.  If you’re like most moms, chances are that your mornings can get pretty crazy, too.  After all, on top of getting yourself ready, there are lunches to make, children to dress, and even pets to feed.  There are a few ways you can streamline the getting-ready process, though, and make your mornings run smoother than ever.

First off, make lunches the night before.  Unless you absolutely can’t prepare the food ahead of time, try to get lunches made and packed the night before you need them.  This will free up your mornings, but it will also make sure you don’t accidentally forget anything important.  This is also a good time to make sure you have permission slips signed, if necessary, and that each child’s projects and homework are ready and by the door.

Ask your children to lay their school clothes out the night before, as well.  This will save you time in the morning since you won’t be looking for lost socks or missing shoes.  Some parents have their children actually go to sleep in their school clothes as a way to save even more time.  Note that this won’t work for older kids who need to shower in the morning or if one of your children tends to wet the bed.

Basically, make sure you plan as much as possible the night before.  That way you can wake up, get ready, and be on your way quickly and with little trouble.  Of course, there will always be minor setbacks and things that come up, but if you have most of your stuff ready ahead of time, you won’t have to worry about a few morning mistakes.
