One of the most important things any woman can do for her family is to get and stay in shape. This doesn’t mean that you have to be a size zero. And let’s face it – most of us won’t get that tiny after having kids, anyway. Losing weight and staying in shape does mean, though, that you can get to a healthy weight, stay active, and make lifestyle choices that will benefit yourself, your body, and your family.
Staying in shape isn’t about vanity, though some people might try to convince you otherwise. If you’re overweight, you’re more at risk for many illnesses and chronic health problems, which is the primary reason you should try to reach and maintain a healthy weight. For me, I have to keep my body weight down in order to prolong or hopefully avoid knee surgery on my other knee. You don’t have to be skinny or scrawny and you don’t have to avoid candy or sweets forever, but it is important to make sure you get to a weight that is optimum for your height and body frame. Have you ever calculated your BMI (Body Mass Index)? All you need to know if you weight and height and the calculator will do the rest.
Healthy foods can also go a long way in making sure you stay in shape, but also that your body gets the nutrients it needs to stay healthy. Things like fruits and vegetables won’t just help you slim down. They’ll also help boost your immune system and keep your body functioning at its best. Staying in shape, as a mom, is important since it shows your family that you value living a healthy lifestyle and it can also help motivate your friends and relatives to live a healthier life, as well. When they see how great you’re doing being on top of things, chances are they’ll want to strive for the same goal.
