Losing Weight Before the Holidays

Whether you are getting ready to celebrate Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, or something completely different, chances are that your family enjoys eating around the holidays.  I know mine does!  From cookies to pies to overstuffed turkeys, the holiday season is a time of weight gain for many.  Fortunately, there are a number of ways you can preemptively lose weight in anticipation of eating too much during your holiday celebrations.

First off, make sure to skip the sodas and pumpkin-flavored drinks in the weeks leading up to your holiday celebration.  While ordering an overpriced mocha can be tempting, keep in mind that it’s also filled with calories that your body can do well without.  Instead, choose to drink water.  Pick up some flavored water if you want to or even consider adding some fruit slices to tap water in order to make it taste better.  Water will keep you hydrated but also save you many calories you would have otherwise drank.

Also remember to get active in the days leading up to the holidays.  Think it’s impossible to squeeze in a workout between gift shopping and holiday decorating?  Why not incorporate the two?  When you hit the mall, take a few laps around it before you shop.  You’ll get a chance to see everything the stores have to offer before you even spend a dime.  You can also choose to do sit-ups or push-ups while you wrap gifts.  Each time you finish wrapping a present, do a few sit-ups.

With a bit of planning, preparation, and determination, you’ll be able to watch your weight and make sure you don’t gain weight during the busy holidays this year.
