Simple One Layer Pie Crust Recipe

Are you looking to show off a few desserts over the holidays?  You can always save time by picking up pre-made pie crust, but if you looking to impress your guests this year, here is a quick, easy, sure-fire recipe that makes one layer of crust.  I am always short on time, but I have made this recipe several times and it turned out perfectly and tasted great each time.

Nancy’s Pie Crust Recipe (Makes 1 Layer of Crust)

  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup shortening
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons of water

Mix all ingredients together and roll out with rolling pin on a floured surface.  Once you have your crust rolled out, you are ready to use it as needed.  If you are placing it in a pie pan, fold it in half and lay it across the pie pan in the middle, so you can easily open it up to lay across the top of your pie pan.

Once your crust is laid across your pie pan, you can take a knife around the edge of your pan to cut off the excess dough.  You can either use your finger to fix the crust edges, or you can simply use a fork to mash down the edges of your pie.  If you need two layers of crust, then fill your pie, and lay the top layer on top and fix the edges as shown above to finish it off.  Some pies require holes to be cut in the top crust and also a little sugar on top.  This information should be listed in your recipe details.

Face it, in our world today, everyone needs something easy and quick, from quick deserts to time saving phone apps.  Have you ever heard of Ringya?  It is the first collaborative address book made especially to save time for moms.  If you’d like to check it out, you can find it on the app store or at www.ringya.com.

Good luck with all the holiday festivities and activity planning.  Holidays can be so much fun, but they require much thought and planning before hand.  Thank goodness for all the moms out there that take the time to make holidays as close as perfect as they can for their families.  Just think of all the memories that are made during this time of year.
