Sanitize Powder Makeup so It Lasts Longer

make up

Makeup can be VERY expensive (with OR without coupons!) and even though us women love splurging on a good beauty product, we also like for them to last as long as possible.  Sanitizing your makeup helps with that!  It gets the bacteria off of the top surface that you use every day, and that prolongs the life of the makeup.

Sanitizing powder makeup is extremely easy, and only requires a few supplies:

  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Paper towels
  • Small spray bottle

Once you have your supplies, you are ready to get started!  Pick out the makeup you want to sanitize (I suggest all of the powder makeup you have and use regularly).  Make sure you are sanitizing with enough time in between the makeup drying and wearing it since rubbing alcohol is involved.  You will want it to dry completely before applying it.

Steps to follow when sanitizing:

  1. Take your paper towel and gently rub the surface of the powder makeup to remove any oils that might have come from your fingers.
  2. Put a small amount of rubbing alcohol in the spray bottle and spritz the top of the powder and set it aside to dry.

It’s very important to never (or at least avoid as much as possible) put your fingers on your powder makeup.  The oil from your fingers could change the texture of the makeup, give it a weird “wet” feeling that will ultimately mess it up, or make it unusable all together.

Extra tip:  Make sure you sanitize the makeup brushes you use with your powders.  Put some rubbing alcohol in a cup and swirl your brushes around in it for a few seconds.  Wipe off any excess alcohol and lay the brush flat to dry.  You now have sanitized makeup and brushes!
