Velveeta Cheese Recall – Check Your Box

velveeta recall

As I was browsing the internet on Sunday night (6/22/14) I came across many articles online about a Velveeta Cheese Recall.  The articles stated that Kraft was recalling Veleveeta Cheese from Walmart Stores in Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota and Wisconsin.   This recall was set in place because the recalled cheese lacks the proper amount of preservatives.  260 cases of Velveeta Original Pasturized Recipe Cheese was recalled due to insufficient levels of Sorbic Acid.  Insufficient Sorbic Acid levels could cause the cheese to spoil too quickly or possibly cause food-born illnesses.

If you purchased Original Velveeta from Walmart in one of the states above, make sure to check the code number on the packaging.  If your code reads:  021000611614, be sure to throw the cheese out or return it to your Walmart for a refund.  The package will also have an expiration date reading “17 DEC 2014” and will list a time frame of 10:54 and 14:35.  If you like more information on this voluntary recall, you can contact Kraft at 800-310-3704.  This number will direct you to Kraft’s Customer Relations Department.

If you are like me and always throw away the Velveeta box and you purchased Original Velveeta from a Walmart store in one of the states listed above, it is always better to be safe than sorry.  Toss your cheese and pick up another cheese loaf from another store, making sure to check the packaging code number and expiration date.
