Son’s First Freshman Assignment

My oldest son just started his freshman year of high school on Monday.  His first Language Arts assignment was to write a poem.  He finished up tonight and after reading it, I knew that I had to share it with you on

Travis Poem

Since he eats, sleeps and breathes basketball, he added a basketball background to his footprint.

His poem reads as follows:

I am smart and friendly

I wonder what the world will become

I hear the sound of money

I see great opportunities ahead

I want to make a difference in the world

I am smart and friendly

I pretend that I can dunk

I feel the pressure of making good grades

I touch the stars at night

I worry about failing

I cry when people die

I am smart and friendly

I understand what it means to work

I say to always do your best

I dream about having superpowers

I try to always do the right thing

I hope for it to snow in Texas

I am smart and friendly

-Travis M.

This is one of those assignments that I will make sure to hold on to and eventually place in a scrapbook.  I keep a drawer for all the “keeper” assignments throughout the year.  This makes it easy for me to keep these papers out of harms way until I am ready to place them inside the scrapbook.  At the end of each year, I place all the papers inside a huge ziploc bag and label with the school year dates.  This keeps all the kid’s papers organized until I am ready to work on organizing them in scrapbooks.
