Are you headed to San Francisco for your next family vacation?  There are tons of great things to do that will keep everyone in the family entertained.  From hikes to attractions, it’s not difficult to find family-friendly activities in a city the size of San Francisco.

Tour the Chocolate Factory

When you’re in the city with the kids, make sure you get them sugared up by heading to the TCHO chocolate factory.  The factory offers tours both for families and for individuals.  You’ll get to see a short movie about chocolate, but even better than that, you’ll be able to taste a few different varieties of chocolate.  On top of that, you don’t have to worry about the tour being too long and boring for the kids – it’s only about an hour from start to finish.  The best part about this great chocolately adventure? It’s not going to cost you anything.

Have a Picnic at the Park

When you book your hotel through Gogobot, make sure you choose something near Golden Gate Park.  This is one of the best kid-friendly places to go in the city, simply because there is a ton to do.  You can take a picnic lunch and spread out on the grass.  There are also playgrounds for the kids, a huge artificial waterfall, and more.  When you’re wandering through the park, don’t forget to check out the buffalo paddock for an interesting experience with wildlife.  If you’re in the area on Monday, Wednesday, or Friday, consider checking out the Japanese Tea Garden.

Visit the Presidio

Do you have a child who loves history?  Make sure you visit The Presidio of San Francisco, as it was once the most important West Coast military post.  The Presidio is one of the biggest military bases that has flown three different flags – American, Mexican, and Spanish.  You can see cannons from the 1700s, barracks where fighters used to live and sleep, and more.  There are free tours hosted by the National Park Service, which will give you even more information about the fort and the surrounding area.  This is a fun option for anyone with a love of American history.

Check out the Zoo

When you’re in San Francisco with kids, it would simply be silly to pass up going to the Zoo.  The San Francisco Zoo is the largest zoo in Northern California.  You’ll find over 225 animal species throughout the park, and a subset of the zoo, the Children’s Zoo, allows you to not only pet, but also feed some barnyard animals.  There are different animal encounters you can experience as well, including Grizzly Bear Feeding, Giraffe open houses, and Insects in Action.  During the spring and summer the zoo is open from 10am-5pm every day of the week.

No matter what your kids are interested in, you’re sure to find something fun to suit them and still keep yourself occupied.  When traveling to a big city like San Francisco, you don’t have to worry too much about what to do with the kids.
