The third-largest city in America and the crossroad of the Midwest, Chicago is hailed as one of the most beautiful cities in the world.  If you’re traveling with kids to the Windy City, these four family-friendly Chicago destinations are sure to blow everyone away.

Lincoln Park Zoo

Only a few blocks north of downtown Chicago lies an urban oasis full of jungles, rainforests, and savannahs home to hundreds of exotic animals.  A quintessential Chicago destination for families, the Lincoln Park Zoo features an animal-themed Children’s Train, and visitors of all ages can get up-close and personal at the Farm-in-the-Zoo.  Lincoln Park Zoo even has a Children’s Zoo specifically designed for their youngest guests.  Families can expect to spend a half-day at the zoo, and admission is totally free.

North Avenue Beach

Many don’t think of coastal excursions when planning a trip to Chicago, but the city features many beautiful, sandy beaches on the shore of Lake Michigan.  North Avenue Beach is considered the premier Chicago beach, and families can spend the entire day swimming, building sand castles, sun-bathing, kayaking, and other beach-related activities.  Unlike other Chicago beaches, North Avenue Beach also offers extensive parking, lifeguards on duty, and concession stands.  Beside the cost for parking, a day at the beach is entirely free.

A popular destination for young space explorers, The Adler Planetarium is both educational and fun.  Featuring multiple state-of-the-art theaters and nine acclaimed permanent exhibitions, the Adler Planetarium allows visitors of all ages to explore the stars.  In fact, the newest exhibit, Planet Explorers, is an interactive area where children take the helm of their own space adventure.  Planet Explorers features hands-on activities, such as piloting a rocket, living on a space station, and exploring the alien environment of Planet X.

As far as family adventure goes, Adler Planetarium is a blast out of this world.  Adult tickets are $12, while children tickets are only $8.

Navy Pier

Fun for the entire family, Navy Pier has been a popular Chicago landmark since 1916 and a favorite destination for visitors and locals alike.  Featuring an entire family friendly area called the Family Pavilion, Navy Pier is home to Chicago Children’s Museum and a 440-seat IMAX Theater. The Family Pavilion also boasts numerous restaurants and retail shops, as well as a breath-taking, indoor 32,000 square-foot botanical park.  Needless to say, families can spend the entire day exploring Navy Pier.

For young thrill-seekers, Navy Pier also features a 150-foot Ferris wheel, carousel, and swing ride.  Activities on Navy Pier vary in cost, but signature rides, such as the Ferris wheel, costs $7 to ride.

Chicago is a popular destination for family vacations, and the city boasts plenty of exciting destinations and activities for kids.  For your convenience, choose a hotel that’s near your favorite kid-friendly activity.  Chicago is home to a lot of hotels, so it’s important to use a trusted hotel website, such as Gogobot, to narrow your search.
