DIY Fairy Jar: Night time Craft

fairy jar

Are you looking for a fun and creative craft to do with your kids that they can keep in their room at night as a night-light?  They can even use this to try and “catch a fairy!”

DIY Fairy Jars are a lot of fun, and really easy to make!  You will need the following supplies:

  1. Mason Jar(s)
  2. Glitter (I have heard that diamond glitter works best for this craft)
  3. Serrated knife
  4. Glow stick(s)
  5. Towel that can get dirty or messed up (just in case!)

The fun part is picking out which color glow stick and glitter you want to use for your fairy jar! Once you have done that, use the serrated knife to cut open the bottom of your glow sticks on the towel (to avoid getting the contents all over everything else, including the surface under the towel) and empty each glow stick into each mason jar.

Once your glow stick has been emptied into the jar, put your glitter in the jar as well.  The amount of glitter you will use depends on the size of the mason jar you are using, how much sparkle you want your fairy jar to have and the size of the glitter.

After you have done that, make sure that you screw the lid of the mason jar on all the way and that it is secure and tight.  Once you know it will not leak out, shake it up really well!  Personally, I would put on a fun song and shake it up until about half way.  Who doesn’t love an impromptu dance party with fairy jars?

These only last about 8 hours until the glow stick runs out, so make sure you plan this craft accordingly so you and your child can really enjoy the fairy jars!  You can use them as a night light, put them on your outside deck at night, in the bathroom during bath time, on the table during dinner, etc.  The possibilities are endless!
