Above you’ll see the stairs from our home. For the last few years, I have wanted to replace the wooden spindles with wrought iron but didn’t want to spend the money. This past December, we were unloading Christmas boxes from the attic and my husband slipped and fell hard against the top railing. Thank goodness the railing held him and kept him from falling from the second floor. After this incident, it was time to replace the stair rails since the fall caused them to be very loose and lean to one side.
The “stair crew” arrived and I left them in the house to get started while I ran out to the gym for awhile. This is what I saw when I pulled up in the driveway. The demolition was completely underway! These rails had been in place since 1995 and was now ready for the dumpster.
Here’s what I saw when I opened my front door, everything had been removed except the carpet and the stairs themselves. Walking up and down the steps is definitely a little scary when the hand rails are gone BUT I can’t wait for my new stair rails and spindles to be installed so we’ll all be careful. The stair guy put up temporary railing before he left so that it would catch us should anyone fall down while going up and down the steps. The only one at risk is our dog Dakota. She gets so wild while running up and down the steps, so we’re all making sure not to call her or get her riled up when she is near or on the steps.
I’ll keep you updated with the progress of our stair railing renovation. I can’t wait to see the finished product!
Have you updated your stair rails? How long did this process take?
