De-Clutter Your Cabinets

cluttered cabinets

Do your cabinets look anything like the image above?  This is what my bottom cabinets inside my kitchen island have turned into over the years.  There is so much stuff in there that I rarely open the doors to them.  This is just sad because my kitchen is lacking in cabinet space and it looks like my disorganization and love for keeping everything has caused this.  We are remodeling our kitchen soon because our cabinets are slowing falling apart and it’s time for an upgrade. The entire kitchen is going to be torn out and before that can happen, I have to box up my entire kitchen so drastic measures have to take place in order to for me to keep from boxing up tons of junk.

Cabinet clutter

I am on my way to a more organized kitchen after reading a much needed de-cluttering and organizing book that a friend recommended.  I am pulling out all the contents of each of my cabinets and making piles for donation as well as for the trash.  I started this de-cluttering process in my bedroom closet and as time progressed, I found it easier to discard more of my items.  As for the kitchen cabinets, most of it went in the trash.  Two of my junk drawers have been slowly falling apart and the junk drawer above this cabinet finally fell completely apart leaving me with tons and tons of pens, pencils, paper clips, fingernail clippers, erasers, pads of paper from hotels, etc.  It was a huge mess but one that needed to be tackled before I could start to box up this cabinet to prepare for the kitchen demo.

Organized Cabinet

Finally, this cabinet de-cluttering is finished.  It is still full of stuff that I haven’t used in a while, but it is much better than before.  I have a hard time parting with the stuff that I have held onto over the years.  I am hoping that once I start boxing everything up for the kitchen demo, that I will be able to part with more of my items, but until then, I’m pleased with this de-cluttering session.
