Tips For Hiring A Moving Company

Are you moving soon and plan on hiring a moving company to move your stuff from one house to the next?  Maybe you are having your things moved to a storage unit instead.  Either way, there are some things you need to take into consideration and do when hiring a moving company.

Do your research.  Check out reviews on any review sites (such as Yelp) and the company’s facebook page (typically they have reviews there, too) and make sure the company has high ratings.  You definitely do not want to go with a company that has a ton of complaints and are not professional.

Once you have hired a company, come to an agreement on a delivery date.  There is nothing more annoying than thinking you know when your stuff will arrive and then having to wait a few extra weeks.  Moving companies will give themselves at least a week of extra travel time if they are driving your stuff from point A to point B.  This is so they do not have to speed or rush or if they end up in traffic or any other possible reason that would slow them down.  That means they are able to take that extra time to show up even if they make it to the destination a week prior.  They are usually paid for a certain time frame, so they will most likely take advantage of that.

Next, thoroughly check your belongings and make sure nothing is damaged before they pack it up and take it away.  Write down every single item you have them transport and note the condition of the item and have them sign it before they leave so they acknowledge that what you wrote was accurate.  That way, if anything turns up damaged you have proof that it was in good working condition before the moving company took possession of it for the transport.

  1. My husband and I are moving our little family a few states over in a couple months. This is out first family move and we are all excited and nervous! The tip about checking reviews before hiring a moving company sounds like a good idea. We will have to keep that in mind!

  2. My work is moving us to our new location. It is great to have a company already lined up for us. However, as newbies to using a moving company, we’d appreciate any advice on what we need to do to prepare for having the moving company come and pack up our stuff.
