Getting the recommended amount of exercise can feel like a chore most days. Around workout time your bed can start to look extra fluffy, your TV show extra interesting, your eyelids extra droopy, and it’s all too easy to say “I’ll do it tomorrow.” However 99% of the time you will not regret a workout! All you need is a little extra motivation to take the first step, and here are some tips on getting yourself pumped to workout:
First, putting on fast paced music is a great way to perk yourself up. Even inspirational speeches can do the trick! Many people listen to music during their work out, however if you start playing music while getting ready you’re much more likely to have a productive workout. I don’t think anyone can do anything less than their best while listening to Beyonce’s “Diva”.
Another good place to find motivation is online. It’s easy to get sidetracked while online, but if you can find social media accounts or pages that inspire you to get fit it only takes one click to get there, and then they can inspire you to get moving! On the flip side, posting yourself can also bring motivation. If you’ve already told your hundreds of Facebook friends online that you’re going for a run today then you are more likely to actually do it.
Dress for success. This applies not only to the office, but also to the gym! If you are wearing athletic clothes that make you feel strong, comfortable, and good about your body then those feelings will inspire you to take care of your body. There are so many great ways to do this today! Athletic clothes have become just as nice as formal clothes; with so many colors, prints, and styles to choose from you can be sure to find something that makes you feel your best!
Most importantly, find a workout that you actually enjoy doing. Whether it’s feeling the wind in your hair while riding a bike, feeling fierce while salsa dancing, or feeling powerful while lifting weights whatever you actually want to do is much more likely to get done! Being healthy doesn’t have to be a chore, so try to choose exercise over the TV today, your future self will thank you!
