Being at peace in your life often means rediscovering where your center lies. You want to find a place daily where you can feel steady, grounded and calm, and it should be something that originates from within you. When you have your center, you are able to achieve a sense of balance, clarity and authenticity in your life.
However, finding this location is challenging because of the difficulties of modern life. It’s often hard when we get caught up in external noise or feel overwhelmed by things. Stress or emotional turbulence can knock you off your center and make you feel like you’re living a life that isn’t yours. What are some of the techniques that you can use to get back to this happy place? Let’s take a look.
Use breath as your anchor
One of the easiest ways to find your center again is to use breath as your anchor. Most people do this by inhaling slowly for 3-4 seconds, holding for 3-4 seconds, and then exhaling for 3-4 seconds. Usually this activates the rest and digest part of the nervous system in as little as 5 to 10 rounds.
Just remember that when you breathe in, breathe through your belly or solar plexus, as these are centering locations. Try to calm your mind as well to reduce the presence of racing thoughts.
Ground your body
Another approach is to ground your body to ground your mind. This is done by focusing on physical sensations in your environment.
For example, one of the things you can do is literally feel your feet on the floor, preferably on grass or soil. When you press them down into the earth, it creates a strong bond between you and the environment that can be deeply centering.
Another thing you can do is take a quick body scan to notice tension or breathing issues. You might want to sit or stand tall, or imagine energy coming in through the crown of your head, flowing down into the earth, and then emanating back out again through your body.
Use supplements and rituals
Also, you can try centering through the use of supplements and rituals. Many people take CBD + THC gummies for calm while meditating or performing other mindfulness techniques. These can bring you back to your happy place.
You can also simply repeat words that your unconscious associates with being centered, including “home”, “calm”, and “center”. When you focus on these words, it reprograms your unconscious mind, and you start to feel happier and more engaged with the world.
Reconnect with what matters to you
Finally, one of the most powerful ways to rediscover your center is to reconnect with the things in your life that most engage you. For example, you could return to hobbies that you had when you were 10 to 15 years old, which are deeply ingrained in who you are as a person. You can also enter activities that make time disappear and allow you to get into a profound flow state. Ask yourself the question: if nobody was watching you, how would you spend the day?
